Join the global 22q at the Zoo. Now in its 15th year 22q at the Zoo brings together families and friends of people living with 22q Deletion and 22q Duplication Syndromes.
Origins and Purpose:
Founded in 2011, "22q at the Zoo – Worldwide Awareness Day" was established by a group of passionate parents and advocates led by Professor Donna McDonald McGinn, wanting to create a fun, family-friendly event that also serves a greater purpose: to raise awareness of 22q11.2 Deletion/ Duplication Syndromes.
The idea was to pick a universal venue—zoos, Cafes, Parks, BBQs which are accessible and appealing to families everywhere.The event is held annually, usually on the third Sunday in May. This year the event is 18th May 2025. Dates and times may vary depending on volunteer coordinators.
